Engineering is providing analysis and design of the bay bridge
Yerba Buena Island Viaduct five span replacement project, for
construction loads and unusually loads. The bridge will be
constructed on false work system adjacent to the existing bay
bridge and skidded in place once the five spans are demolished.
The falsework needed to be analyzed for various loading conditions
to determine the effective bracing system that can withstand the
high wind loads and minimize the lateral displacements while
providing an efficient design to meet the tight construction
deadlines. Different ground elevations and construction staging
had to be considered to overcome specific challenges imposed by
unique sight conditions.
